Veronica is a single mum with 3 children living on a housing estate in Hull (one of the top ten areas of deprivation in the UK).
Veronica’s struggles with her literacy and needed help from the Parents Centre at her children’s school to complete some forms.
Early November Veronica began to worry about Christmas as she not only had Christmas to deal with, it was also be her twin girls 11th birthday that month. She had managed to save a little but was concerned that if she spent it on the girl’s birthdays there would be no money left for Christmas.
The school had already approached us for toys and gifts to give to some of their most vulnerable families, knowing that these children may not receive even a single gift.
Perhaps even no tree, no Christmas dinner.
I know, unimaginable isn’t it?
Veronica was overwhelmed and immediately asked if there was any way she could volunteer within school so she could show her appreciation. And the first thing she did was wrap all of the presents that came through from Giving World!
“This has made my Christmas,” said Veronica. “I now know the kids will have something to open on Christmas day. I didn’t know how I was going to tell my youngest that Santa hadn’t been to see them.”
“It was one of the best Christmases we have had, the kids may not have got as much as their mates but they loved everything they got. Thank you so much for making my kids smile.”
Veronica now regularly gives her time freely, volunteering at the Parents Centre and has also engaged in a literacy course. As she puts it, “It’s just my way of saying thanks for making my kids happy this Christmas”
